Acquisition Policy

First and foremost we will accept donations from anyone for research material from any location.  Research materials can be just about anything that may contain details about people, for example, city directories, phonebooks, county history books, plat maps, family bibles (if there are hand written family tree notes inside), cookbooks (if there are brief biographies and/or photos of the people that submit the recipes), compiled obituary books, memorial cards, compiled family histories (including those created digitally and saved to a CD), school annuals or yearbooks, personal scrapbooks, photo albums, biographies, etc.  However, when we receive funds designated specifically to purchase items for our collection we will adhere to the following policy.  We will look for anything that has been or will be published about Scotts Bluff County, if we find nothing new we will expand our search for new material that is or will be published about the counties surrounding Scotts Bluff Co., including Goshen Co., Wyoming, finding nothing new we will expand our search for new material from anywhere in Nebraska, finding nothing new we will then expand our search to include states that surround Nebraska, finding nothing new we will expand our search to include the entire United States, finding nothing new we will expand our search to include all other countries.

We do offer a joint purchase option for our patrons, which means if you know of a book or other item that we should add to our collection and you’re willing to pay for half the cost we will pay the other half and let you have first access to the item when it arrives at the Center.  For example, lets say county xyz plans to publish a new history book where the cost is $60.00.  If you would like to expedite the ordering of the book and make it available as soon as possible, you may pay half the cost ($30.00) and the Center will pay the other half, including any shipping charges, and will order the book.  As soon as the book arrives you will be notified and given the opportunity to take it home to read but it must be returned within three weeks.
