History of Banking in Scottsbluff

As Chairman, President and CEO of Platte Valley Companies and a third generation banker from Scottsbluff, Hod has extensive knowledge and a unique perspective of the rich and colorful history of banking.  The Kosman family banking history stretches clear back to the early days of Scottsbluff and continues through to today.  Hod’s involvement in the banking industry doesn’t stop with just Scottsbluff, Platte Valley Companies also has additional locations in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado.  During his career Hod served with the Federal Reserve for six years from 1996 to 2002.

Hod’s will include information in his program why his family chose Scottsbluff to start a bank, the various changes in the banking industry over years including changes in currency and coins.  Hod will relay a story of a bandit strike again his family’s bank and the hostage situation.  Hod will talk about banking after the great depression in 30’s and he will review and display some old banking documents.

Hod has a passion for and has been actively involved in conservation for many years.  He lends his expertise to organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Wild Turkey Federation and The Nature Conservancy.  Hod has been President of Platte River Basin Environments, Inc. (PRBE) for twenty-eight years.  PRBE owns and/or operates 30,000 acres of public access lands in western Nebraska.
