Mr. Marty Connealy of Chadron will present a program on the history of the Veterans Honor Flight in western Nebraska, how the service was started, current flight schedules and future VHF plans. Originally from Gordon, Marty has been practicing law in Nebraska since 1977 and more specifically in Chadron since 1979.
While watch the military channel on TV one night Marty saw a program that mentioned the national honor flight organization and their efforts to provide transportation services for World War II veterans to visit the national World War II memorial in Washington DC. Marty immediately wondered if such a service was available in western Nebraska. As it turned out, the Veterans Honor Flight service concept had not yet reached the panhandle of Nebraska, nor the eastern edge of Wyoming or the southwest corner of South Dakota. Encouraged by his wife, Marty immediately set about to bring this desperately needed service to area veterans as a small way to honor “the greatest generation”.
The Veterans Honor Flight service has since expanded its focus group to now include all veterans of all conflicts where the United State is involved.
